Benefits of Volunteering at Stella Maris
Stella Maris volunteers are treated with respect and gratitude for their significant contributions to our residents. In addition to knowing that you are helping others in need, Stella Maris provides an orientation for all volunteers. Whether you have a few days or a few hours a week, volunteering can provide a worthwhile experience for both you and our residents.
Stella Maris provides free parking, dining room discounts, immediate and annual recognition, a required TB blood test, flu shots, MTA access and more.
Hospice Volunteer Program
For more than 30 years, Stella Maris has provided hospice care to individuals facing a life-limiting illness. Whether care is provided in the home or on our inpatient unit, hospice care at Stella Maris is not just a service, but a part of our mission. Our hospice program values the support of volunteers, who help provide support to the terminally ill, their families and the bereaved.
Stella Maris hospice volunteers are required to complete a mandatory 16-hour hospice volunteer training program. Hospice volunteers will also shadow current volunteers in this role prior to working directly with patients and residents. This program helps develop the necessary skills for working with the dying. Additional educational opportunities are also available throughout the year and encouraged.
Student Volunteer Program
Stella Maris warmly welcomes student volunteers who need to complete required community service hours. Students must be between the ages of 14-18 and possess a willingness to serve the elderly. All students must complete an application and an orientation, provided by the Programs and Activities Department.
Stella Maris Auxiliary
The Stella Maris Auxiliary has served Stella Maris since 1955. It is a service organization dedicated to promoting and advancing the welfare of the services managed by Stella Maris. Any individual is invited to join our organization and support its efforts to make Stella Maris a special place for all who call it home.
The Auxiliary operates a gift shop and a Good Buy shop. Craft sales, raffles and seasonal events raise funds to support special projects at Stella Maris. Annual dues are $15; lifetime memberships are $100.
